US lawmaker demands answers from SEC on docs related to Sam Bankman-Fried’s arrest

Lawmaker Demands Answers from SEC

Representative Rashida Tlaib has requested the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to provide answers about the arrest of Sam Bankman-Fried, the CEO of Alameda Research.

In a letter addressed to the SEC, Tlaib expressed her concern about the lack of transparency surrounding Bankman-Fried’s arrest and the subsequent lack of information provided by the SEC.

The letter, dated May 4, 2021, states that the SEC has failed to provide any information about the arrest, including the specific charges, the evidence used, and the rationale for the arrest.

Tlaib also requested that the SEC provide a timeline of the events leading up to the arrest and any other relevant information. She also asked the SEC to explain why it has not provided more information to the public.

The letter concludes by asking the SEC to provide a response by May 20, 2021.

Arrest of Sam Bankman-Fried

In April 2020, Sam Bankman-Fried, the CEO of Alameda Research, was arrested on charges of insider trading. Bankman-Fried had allegedly used inside information to purchase securities in advance of a public announcement, which resulted in a significant financial gain.

Following the arrest, US lawmakers have called on the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to provide documents related to the case. The lawmakers have requested the documents to better understand the details of the case and to ensure that the SEC is taking appropriate action to protect investors.

The SEC has yet to respond to the lawmakers’ request for documents, and it remains unclear when or if the documents will be released.
