Coinbase International Exchange Receives Regulatory Approval for Perpetual Futures Trading

Coinbase International Exchange, a class F license holder from the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA), recently announced that it has obtained additional regulatory approval, allowing the platform to offer perpetual futures trading to non-U.S. retail customers.

Launched in May 2023, Coinbase International already provided crypto derivates services to institutional clients. This new regulatory approval will now provide eligible customers access to regulated perpetual futures contracts on the Coinbase Advanced platform in the coming weeks. According to the exchange, perpetual futures accounts are maintained by Coinbase Bermuda and regulated by the BMA.

Coinbase pointed out that nearly 75% of crypto trading volume is derived from the derivatives market, and the recent regulatory approval will help retail traders access the crypto derivatives market, which is primarily dominated by institutions.

The crypto platform also noted that Coinbase does not engage in market making, and liquidity on the exchanges is provided by established, independent liquidity providers who have undergone thorough compliance reviews.

Coinbase International Exchange Offers Derivatives to Retail Traders

Coinbase International Exchange provides a secure and compliant gateway for retail traders to access the derivatives market. Eligibility for this product is evaluated before customers can open a Coinbase Advanced trading account, and is currently available to non-US consumers in select countries.

This approval follows the National Futures Association (NFA) granting Coinbase the ability to offer crypto futures investments to eligible institutional clients in the US. Despite the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing a lawsuit against Coinbase in June for alleged violations of securities laws, Coinbase has continued to make progress in international markets.
