Zero Barriers podcast series: Crypto adoption fueled by ZK-rollups

Exploring the World of Zero-Knowledge Rollups with Cointelegraph and StarkWare

Cointelegraph is teaming up with StarkWare to launch Zero Barriers, a six-part podcast series as part of the Decentralize with Cointelegraph podcast. Hosts from the Cointelegraph team will be joined by different guests from the StarkWare ecosystem to explore the ever-growing world of zero-knowledge rollups (ZK-rollups) and the future of blockchain technology.

Zero-knowledge protocols or rollups are becoming increasingly popular in the crypto space as a layer-2 scaling solution, particularly for the Ethereum blockchain. In the first episode, titled: “How blockchain is taking on the world,” StarkWare CEO and co-founder Uri Kolodny and its chief architect Eli Ben-Sasson will discuss their vision for Ethereum and the potential of blockchain technology. Nathan Jeffay of StarkWare will co-host the episode.

Zero-knowledge technology allows one party to prove the existence of data to another without revealing the information itself. StarkWare released its own ZK-rollup protocol, Starknet, in November 2021.

Starknet: A Decentralized Validity Rollup

Starknet is a decentralized validity rollup, or ZK-rollup, which operates as an Ethereum layer 2, enabling apps to scale on the network. Recently, Starknet took a big step towards becoming fully Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible, with the launch of Kakarot, a new zero-knowledge EVM, set to go live on a testnet in August.

ZK-rollups increase throughput on the Ethereum mainnet by moving computation and state storage off-chain. This technology can process thousands of transactions per second (TPS), greatly improving the roughly 30 TPS handled by the Ethereum mainnet. Plus, it does this without sharing sensitive transaction data, making it a privacy-focused scaling solution.

ZK has become a popular scaling technology, and the Zero Barriers podcast series on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and other platforms offers exclusive insights into the ZK ecosystem from those creating the technology.
