Joe Biden Becomes Unintentional Bitcoin Ambassador with Laser-Eye Profile Picture
United States President Joe Biden has inadvertently become a representative for Bitcoin (BTC), after sharing a photo of himself with laser eyes on his Twitter and Instagram profiles.
The caption, “just like we drew it up,” was in celebration of the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory over the San Francisco 49ers in the 2024 Super Bowl, which happened just 15 minutes prior.
While many in the crypto community interpreted this as a direct endorsement of Bitcoin, it is more likely that Biden’s new profile picture is a continuation of the “Dark Brandon” meme. This edgier online persona is used by his supporters to highlight his policy successes.
Bankless speculated on the potential impact of this post on the ETH/BTC chart, while Twitter user WhalePanda indirectly accused Biden of cultural appropriation.
Biden’s Stance on Bitcoin and Crypto in the Context of Web 3.0
It is unlikely that President Biden would endorse any specific cryptocurrency, as he has not shown a preference for policies that favor Bitcoin or the broader crypto industry.
According to Stand with Crypto, a nonprofit advocating for digital assets, Biden has made five public statements that suggest a negative view on crypto, placing him in the “against crypto” category.
The recent trend of “laser eyes” on social media, typically used as a symbol of bullishness on Bitcoin, was part of a movement to drive the price of Bitcoin to $100,000 by the end of 2021. However, this goal was not achieved.
Notable figures who adopted the laser eyes trend include NFL star Tom Brady, socialite Paris Hilton, and tech mogul Elon Musk.
