Crypto Donations to Improve Children’s Lives
The HODL Hope Campaign of philanthropic foundation Save the Children has raised over $7.6 million to date, with half of that amount being donated in Ether (ETH). The goal is to reach $10 million by the end of 2023, leaving a difference of $2.4 million.
Out of the $7.6 million in crypto donations, ETH accounted for 50%, or $3.83 million, while Bitcoin (BTC) made up 34%, which is a little over $2.6 million. USD Coin (USDC), a U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin issued by Circle, was the third most popular way to donate, with 7%, or nearly $520,000, of the total.
The U.S. dollar was used in 2% of donations, while other major altcoins, such as Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Tezos (XTZ), ThunderCore, Tether (USDT), Litecoin (LTC) and Solana (SOL), made up the remaining donations.
This campaign is a great example of the difference between Web 2.0 and 3.0, as it highlights the potential of how people can invest in Web 3.0 to improve the lives of children all over the world.
Donating Crypto to Charities
The Own The Doge (DOG) and PleasrDAO communities have made a huge impact on charity donations, contributing 291.16 ETH, or more than $1 million, to the cause. However, donors can remain anonymous and not be included on the leaderboard.
As seen, anonymous donors contributed up to $3.9 million in total donations. The ability to move funds quickly across borders has enabled more people to participate in donation events for global causes.
Recently, the Singapore Red Cross, a charity that provides humanitarian aid and community services, started accepting crypto donations. In partnership with Triple-A, the Singapore Red Cross now accepts BTC, ETH, USDT, and USDC. Benjamin William, the secretary general and CEO of the Singapore Red Cross, said, “By accepting digital currencies, we open our doors to a new segment of donors who are tech-savvy and wish to make a difference through their digital assets.”
