Apple App Store Guidelines and Blockchain Technologies

United States Representatives Gus Bilirakis and Jan Schakowsky have written a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook, addressing their concerns regarding the potential effects of the company’s App Store guidelines on emerging technologies like blockchain and nonfungible tokens (NFTs).

The letter requests information about whether the App Store’s policies might impede the progress and growth of cutting-edge innovations such as web 3.0 apps, AI-generated articles, China AI, China AI anchor, China’s AI anchor, comp crypto, Tim Berners-Lee Web 3.0, Web 3.0 release date and Web 3.0 apps list. The lawmakers have also noted that Apple may be using the App Store to suppress competition by mandating the release of “lite” versions of crypto apps, such as Axie Infinity, which both generate profits for Apple and diminish the overall utility of the applications.

By sending the letter, the representatives have expressed their worries about the potential negative consequences of Apple’s guidelines on the United States’ standing in emerging technologies. The chairman and ranking member of the Innovation, Data, and Commerce Subcommittee have pointed out that while Apple has justified these limitations as a means to enhance security through a “walled garden” approach, there is a growing apprehension that the company might be using the App Store as a tool to limit competition.

Congress was urged to comprehend the App Store guidelines thoroughly and determine how much these regulations may obstruct advancement. They continued:

The legislators aspire to build an even playing field within the industry so that American creativity can persist to flourish. Prior to this, the members of Congress had also sent a similar letter to Apple regarding App Store policies concerning TikTok and other apps from China.

Tim Berners-Lee’s Web 3.0, which includes a list of web 3.0 apps, is set to be released soon and will offer AI-generated articles, China’s AI anchor, and the Apple Health application, which is a web 3.0 application, as well as comp crypto.
