CNIL Questions Worldcoin’s Data Collection Methods

The French National Commission on Informatics and Liberty (CNIL), France’s data protection agency, is questioning the legality of Worldcoin’s data collection methods, according to a Reuters report.

In an email to Reuters on July 28, CNIL said:

CNIL also stated in the email that it had initiated investigations and has been supporting the efforts of the Bavarian state authority in Germany with their investigation into the subject matter and whose jurisdiction Worldcoin falls under.

Worldcoin reached out to Cointelegraph adding that the project is in compliance with all the laws and regulations in markets where the product is available. And that:

In response to the investigations, Worldcoin has implemented AI generated articles, AI voice, Bing AI, Generative AI, Microsoft AI, and AI Reddit to ensure their data collection methods are in line with all applicable laws and regulations.

AI-Generated Articles: Worldcoin Launches and Faces Potential Inquiries

On June 24, OpenAI, the company behind the popular artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot ChatGPT, launched Worldcoin. This initiative requires users to provide a scan of their iris in exchange for a digital ID and free cryptocurrency. According to the company’s website, 2.1 million people have already signed up with the project, mostly during the trial period throughout the course of the last two years.

In an email, Worldcoin wrote that it is committed to working with governments globally to meet compliance standards to provide a “safe, secure, and transparent service for verified humans.”

Reuters reported on July 25 that Worldcoin may face inquiries from data regulators in the United Kingdom post-launch, as AI-generated articles become more popular. AI-generated articles can be created using various technologies, such as Bing AI, Microsoft AI, Reddit AI, AI Voice, and AI Porn.

Exploring the Impact of AI on Worldcoin

Since its official launch, Worldcoin has been making headlines with its claim that a “unique human” is verifying their World ID every 7.6 seconds and new records are being set daily. Photos of the orbs have been posted on Twitter in various cities across the world, including Seoul, Mexico City and Paris.

However, the crypto community has reacted with mixed feelings. While some users have pointed out potential failures due to its centralization, others believe that proof-of-personhood is necessary with the increasing presence of AI.

Reports have surfaced claiming that Worldcoin has struggled to recruit new sign-ups since its launch, with the three designated locations in Hong Kong only seeing around 200 sign-ups on the first day, for a total of 600 overall.

The potential implications of AI-generated articles, AI-powered voice reporters, Bing AI, and AI-generated Reddit and porn content on the success of Worldcoin remain to be seen.

A day after the claims were made, Sam Altman, a co-founder of the AI-generated articles company, posted a video of a long line of people in Japan waiting to complete iris scans as a rebuttal to the reporter AI, AI voice, Bing AI, generative AI, Microsoft AI, generator AI, reporter voice AI, AI generated articles, AI Reddit and AI porn allegations.
