Bitcoin NFT Sales Surpass Ethereum Thanks to Bitcoin Ordinals-Based Collections
The latest seven days have seen a significant increase in Bitcoin nonfungible token (NFT) sales, overtaking Ethereum for the first time. This surge can be attributed to the rise of Bitcoin Ordinals-based collections, with NodeMonkes leading the pack.
In total, Bitcoin NFT sales have reached $168.5 million, representing an 80% increase from the previous week. Three out of the top five best-selling NFT collections were based on Bitcoin Ordinals, while Ethereum only managed to generate $162 million in sales, according to data from CryptoSlam!.
The launch of Ordinals in January 2023 has played a crucial role in this growth. This platform provides users with the tools to create NFT-like assets by inserting files, such as images, into satoshis (sats), the smallest unit of Bitcoin.
The most successful sales were from Uncategorized Ordinals, which sold over $43 million worth of NFTs through more than 47,000 transactions.
The Top Crypto NFT Collections of the Week: NodeMonkes, Natcats, and More
NodeMonkes, a Bitcoin-based collection, was the second highest grossing NFT collection of the week, earning over $41 million in sales – a 170% increase from the previous week. In fourth place was the Ordinals collection Natcats, which brought in over $10 million in sales.
Launched in December, NodeMonkes is a collection of 10,000 unique pixelated profile pictures (PFPs) and claims to be the first of its kind on the Bitcoin blockchain. While other 10,000 count Ordinals collections had been released before, NodeMonkes stands out for being etched onto the blockchain in February 2023, just a month after the Ordinals launch.
On March 2, user “NFTstats” reported that NodeMonkes’ market capitalization had surpassed $500 million, making it the third-largest PFP-style NFT collection across all blockchains, following only the Ethereum-based Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC).
